(Paush Putrada Ekadashi fasting story)

Paush Putrada Ekadashi fasting story

A king named Suketuman used to rule in a city named Bhadravati. He had no son. His wife's name was Shaivya. She was always worried about being childless. Even the ancestors of the king used to take the pind while crying and used to think that after this who will give us the pind. The king was not satisfied with any of these brothers, relatives, wealth, elephants, horses, kingdom and ministers.

He always used to think that after my death, who will do Pind Daan for me. How can I repay the debt of ancestors and gods without a son. There is always darkness in the house where there is no son. That's why efforts should be made to have a son.

Blessed is the man who has seen the face of the son. He gets fame in this world and peace in the hereafter, that means both his worlds improve. Sons, wealth etc. are obtained in this birth only by the deeds of the previous birth. The king used to worry like this day and night.

At one time the king decided to sacrifice his body, but considering suicide as a great sin, he did not do so. One day thinking like this the king mounted his horse and went to the forest and started watching the birds and trees. He saw that deer, tiger, boar, lion, monkey, snake etc. are all roaming in the forest. The elephant is roaming among its children and the elephants.

Somewhere in this forest jackals are speaking in their hoarse voice, somewhere owls are making sound. Seeing the scenes of the forest, the king started thinking. Half a day passed like this. He started thinking that I performed many yagyas, satisfied the brahmins with delicious food, still I got sorrow, why?

The king became very sad due to thirst and started roaming here and there in search of water. At a short distance the king saw a lake. Lotuses were blooming in that lake and storks, swans, crocodiles etc. were roaming around. Hermitages of sages were built around that lake. At the same time the king's right limbs started fluttering. The king got down from his horse thinking it was auspicious omen and sat down after paying obeisance to the sages.

Seeing the king, the sages said - O king! We are very pleased with you. Say what you want.

The king asked - Maharaj, who are you, and why have you come here. Please tell.

Muni started saying that O Rajan! Today is Putrada Ekadashi, the one who gives children, we are Vishwadev and have come to bathe in this lake.

Hearing this, the king started saying that Maharaj, I also do not have any child, if you are happy with me, then give me the boon of a son.

Muni said - Hey Rajan! Today is Putrada Ekadashi. You must observe this fast, by the grace of God, you will surely have a son in your house.

After listening to the sage's words, the king fasted on Ekadashi on the same day and celebrated it on Dwadashi. After this he returned to the palace after saluting the sages. After some time the queen conceived and after nine months she had a son. That prince became extremely brave, successful and a protector of the people.
