"Vijaya Ekadashi fasting story

Arjun was feeling immense joy on hearing the greatness of Ekadashis. After listening to the story of Jaya Ekadashi, Arjuna said- ""O Pundarikaksha! What is the name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month and what is the procedure for its fasting? Kindly tell me in detail about this also.

Shri Krishna said- ""O Arjuna! The name of Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month is Vijaya. Man gets Vijayashree by the effect of its fast. All sins are destroyed by hearing and reciting the greatness of this Vijaya Ekadashi.

Once Devarshi Narad said to the father of the world Brahmaji - 'O Brahmaji! You please tell me the fast of Vijaya Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Falgun month and its method.

After listening to Narad, Brahmaji said - 'O son! The fasting of Vijaya Ekadashi is going to destroy the sins of the past and the sins of the present. I have not told the law of this Ekadashi to anyone till date, but I tell you, it gives victory to all the humans who fast.

Now listen to the story with devotion - When Shriram got fourteen years of exile, he started living in Panchavati along with brother Laxman and mother Sita. At that time, the great sinner Ravana abducted Mother Sita.

Shriramji and Laxmanji were extremely saddened by this sad incident and started wandering from forest to forest in search of Sitaji. Roaming through the jungle, they reached the dying Jatayu. Jatayu told him the whole story of Mother Sita's abduction and leaving his life in the lap of Lord Shri Ram, left for heaven. Later on, Shri Ram and Lakshman became friends with Sugriva and there they killed Bali.

Shriram devotee Hanumanji went to Lanka to find Mother Sita and narrated the friendship of Shriramji and Maharaj Sugriva to the mother. Returning from there, Hanumanji came to Shri Ramchandraji and narrated the whole story of Ashok Vatika.

After knowing everything, Shriramchandraji left for Lanka with the consent of Sugriva along with the army of monkeys and bears. On reaching the sea shore, Shri Ramji saw the vast sea full of crocodiles and said to Lakshmanji - 'O Lakshman! How will you cross this vast sea full of many crocodiles and creatures?'

After listening to Lord Shriram, Laxmanji said - ' Brother! You are Puran Purushottam Adipurush. Nothing is missing from you. Half a scheme away from here is the hermitage of Vakdalbhya Muni in Kumari Island. He is the knower of many names of Brahmas. Only they can tell you the ways of your victory.

After listening to the words of his younger brother Lakshmanji, Shriramji went to the hermitage of Vakdalbhya Rishi and sat on one side after saluting him.

Seeing Shriram coming to his ashram, Maharishi Vakdalbhya asked - 'O Shriram! For what purpose have you sanctified my cottage, please tell your purpose Lord!'

After listening to the sweet words of the sage, Shriramji said - 'O Rishivar! I have come here with the army and am going to Lanka with the desire to conquer the demon king Ravana. Please tell me some way to cross the ocean. This is my purpose in coming to you.'

Maharishi Vakdalbhya said - 'O Ram! Let me tell you a very good fast. By doing which you will definitely get Vijayashree.

'What kind of fast is this, Munishrestha! By doing which one attains victory in all fields?' Are you curious, Shri Ram asked. On this Maharishi Vakdalbhya said - 'O Shriram! By fasting on Vijaya Ekadashi of Krishna Paksha of Phalgun month, you will surely cross the sea and you will win in war too. O Maryada Purushottam! For this fast, make a gold, silver, copper or clay urn on the day of Dashami. After filling that Kalash with water and placing Pancha Pallava on it, install it on the Vedika. Put Satanja i.e. seven mixed grains under that Kalash and barley on top. Install the golden statue of Vishnu on it. On the day of Ekadashi, after taking bath, worship Lord Hari with dhoop, lamp, naivedya, coconut etc. He should spend the whole day devotionally in front of the Kalash and stay awake at night sitting in the same way. On the day of Dwadashi, after retiring from bathing etc. on the banks of a river or a stream, give that urn to a Brahmin. Hey Dashrathanandan! If you do this fast with the generals, then Vijayashree will definitely yours. After listening to the sage's words, Shri Ramchandraji observed Vijaya Ekadashi fast and with its effect, he got victory over the demons.

Hey Arjun! The man who fulfills this fast with rules and regulations, he will be victorious in both the worlds. Shri Brahmaji had said to Naradji - The one who hears or recites the greatness of this fast, he gets the fruit of Vajpayee Yagya.
