Shree Somnath Jyotirling - A huge temple on the beach of Veraval near Junagadh in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat houses Shri Somnath Jyotirlinga. It is said that here Lord Shiva freed the moon from the curse of Daksha Prajapati. It was at this place that Lord Krishna got his sole pierced by a hunter's arrow and ended his worldly life. The temple of Somnath ji has also been famous for its splendor and prosperity. Many times this temple was also targeted by indigenous and foreign attackers. The story that is told about Shri Somnath Jyotirlinga is as follows – Daksha Prajapati, the son of Brahma, married his 27 Nakshatra girls to the Moon at the same time. But Chandradev's choice was Rohini. Rohini's other sisters were unhappy at being neglected by Chandra Dev. When this matter reached Daksh Prajapati, he explained to Chandra Dev to treat everyone equally. But when there was no effect on Chandra Dev, Daksha cursed Chandra Dev to suffer from tuberculosis. Due to this, the body of the moon started decreasing continuously. His work of spreading moonlight in the world stopped. All the living beings started suffering and started crying for mercy. Chandradev called all the gods, sages etc. for his help but no solution was found. Due to this, the helpless gods reached the shelter of Brahmaji with the moon. Brahmaji asked Chandrama along with other deities to go to the meeting place of Saraswati with the ocean in the Prabhas region and worship Mrityunjaya Lord Shiva. On this, the moon went to the Prabhas area with the deities and chanted ten crore Mahamrityunjaya mantras for six months. Pleased with the worship of Chandra Dev, Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati appeared there and blessed Chandra Dev with immortality. He reduced the effect of Daksha's curse by giving a boon that in the fifteen days of the month, the decay of Chandra Dev's body would decrease little by little and these fifteen days would be called Krishna Paksha. In the subsequent fifteen dates, the body of Chandra Dev will be completed on the fifteenth day by increasing little by little every day. These fifteen days will be called Shukla Paksha. With this boon, the crisis of Chandra Dev was averted and he again started showering moonlight on the whole world. During this, Chandra Dev and other deities prayed to Lord Shiva to reside there along with Mother Parvati, which Lord Shiva accepted and started residing there.

On this, father Lord Shiva and mother Parvati said that the one who returns first after circumambulating the earth will be married first. On this, agile Kartikeya immediately left for parikrama, but since Shri Ganesh was fat, he could not get out of that agility and for this he found a new solution. According to the scriptures, the worship of parents is considered as circumambulation of the earth and it also gives the same result as that of circumambulation of the whole earth. As soon as this remedy came to mind, Shri Ganesh ji started worshiping Mother Parvati and Father Shiv Shankar by making them sit on the seat. Pleased with this, Lord Shiva Shankar got him married to Riddhi and Siddhi, the two daughters of Vishwaroop Prajapati. Here, by the time Lord Kartikeya reached his parents after circumambulating the earth, Lord Ganesha had become the father of two sons named Kshem and Labh. On this, after touching the feet of the parents, Kartikeya got angry and went to Kraunch mountain. The parents later went there in the form of Mallika and Arjuna to persuade them, then on hearing the news of their arrival, Kartikeya ran away from there and went on three plans. Lord Shiva Shankar and Mother Parvati settled there in the form of Jyotirlinga for the welfare of the residents of Kraunch Parvat (Shri Shail) region.

Nageshwar Jyotirlinga- Nageshwar Jyotirlinga is located in Dwarukavana, Dwarka, Gujarat. The story related to the establishment of this Jyotirlinga is as follows- A Vaishya named Supriya was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Once when he was going somewhere on a boat, a demon named Daruk attacked him and caught Supriya and his fellow travelers and took them to Puri and imprisoned them. Supriya remained engrossed in devotion to Shiva even in jail. When Daruk got the news of this, he came there and started scolding and reprimanding Supriya. When this had no effect on Supriya, Daruk asked his servants to kill him. Even on this, Supriya was not disturbed even a bit. When all this was not seen by Lord Shiva, he appeared in the prison itself in the form of Jyotirlinga towering on a shining throne of gold. He also gave his infallible weapon named Pashupat to Supriya and after giving darshan, he went into deep meditation. Supriya killed the demon with this weapon and went to Shivdham. As per the order of Lord Shankar, this Jyotirlinga was named as Nageshwar Jyotirlinga.

Rameshwar Jyotirling- Setubandha Rameshwar Jyotirlinga was established by Maryada Purushottam Lord Shriram himself. When Shriram reached the beach to climb Lanka, he started drinking water there. Only then Akashvani was heard - "You drink water without worshiping me." After listening to this voice, Lord Shri Ram made a Linga idol from the sand of the beach itself and started worshiping Lord Shiva. Only then Lord Shiva appeared there after being pleased, then Shriram asked for the blessings of victory over Ravana, which Shivji gladly gave. Shriramji also took a promise from Lord Shankarji to reside there forever in the form of Jyotirlinga for the benefit of the world. Thus the Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga was established.

Ghrishneshwar Jyotirlinga- Shri Dhushmeshwar Jyotirlinga is located near Ellora Caves in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. With the darshan of Dhushmeshwar Mahadev all sins are removed and happiness comes in life. The story related to the establishment of this Jyotirlinga is as follows- A Brahmin named Sudharma lived with his wife Sudeha near Devagiri mountain in the southern country. There was a lot of love in both and both were living happily. He had only one sorrow that he had no children. Sudharma was also an astrologer, he had found out from his astrological calculations that he would not get child happiness from Sudeha and he had told this to Sudeha as well. In such a situation, Sudeha proposed to marry her sister Dhushma in front of her husband, at first Sudharma refused, but later he agreed to Sudeha's insistence. Dhushma also had good manners, she used to make 101 earthly Shivlings regularly and worship them duly and make them flow in water. By the grace of Lord Shiva, within a few days, Dhushma became pregnant and was blessed with a son, Ratna. The whole family became happy but after a few days, Suheha began to feel barren and jealous of her step-mother. As Dhushma's son grew up, Sudeha's jealousy also increased. Dhushma's son became young and he also got married. Sudeha now felt insecure. She kept thinking that Dhushma's son and his wife would usurp all her wealth. One day when Dhushma's son was sleeping with his wife at night, Sudeha killed him and took his body and threw it in the same pond in which Dhushma used to float the dead Shivlings daily. In the morning, Dhushma's daughter-in-law found her husband missing and started crying when she saw blood on the bed. But Dhushma continued with her routine and made 101 earthly Shivlings and worshiped them and took them to leave them in the pond. After floating the Shivlings in the pond, when she started returning home, she saw that her son came out of the pond alive. Dhushma considered this whole incident as the pastime of Lord Shiva. Pleased with this, Lord Shiva appeared and asked Dhushma to ask for a boon, then Dhushma said that God, you stay here forever, I ask you for such a boon. Only then saying this will happen, Lord Shiva turned into Jyotirlinga and Dhushma duly consecrated him.
