श्री कृष्ण और अरिष्टासुर वध की कहानी 

यह बात उस समय की है जब कृष्ण नन्हे से बालक थे। वह अपने नन्द बाबा की गाय-भैंसों को चराया करते थे। उस समय बाल कृष्ण का मामा कंस हमेशा उन्हें मारने की कोशिश में लगा रहता था। एक बार कंस ने बाल कृष्ण को मारने के लिए अरिष्टासुर नाम के एक राक्षस को भेजा। अरिष्टासुर, श्री कृष्ण की ताकत को जानता था, इसलिए उसने श्री कृष्ण को मारने के लिए अलग तरीका अपनाया।

अरिष्टासुर ने गाय के बछड़े का रूप बनाया और गाय के झुंड में शामिल हो गया। झुंड में शामिल होकर वह कृष्ण को मारने का मौका देखने लगा। जब उसे श्री कृष्ण पर वार करने का कोई मौका नहीं मिला, तो उसने कृष्ण के दोस्तों को मारना शुरू कर दिया। जब श्री कृष्ण ने अपने बाल सखाओं की यह हालत देखी, तो उन्हें पता चल गया कि यह किसी राक्षस का काम है। फिर क्या था, भगवान कृष्ण ने गाय रूपी अरिष्टासुर की टांग पकड़ कर उसे जमीन पर पटक दिया, जिससे उसकी मौत हो गई।

जब राधा रानी को इस घटना के बारे में पता चला, तो उन्होंने कहा, “कान्हा तुमने गोहत्या की है, जो घोर पाप है। इस पाप से मुक्ति पाने के लिए तुम्हें सारे तीर्थों की यात्रा करनी होगी।” श्री कृष्ण को राधा की बात सही लगी, लेकिन सभी तीर्थों की यात्रा तो मुमकिन नहीं थी। इस समस्या का समाधान पाने के लिए श्री कृष्ण नारद मुनि के पास पहुंचे।

नारद मुनि ने कहा, “तुम सब तीर्थों को यह आदेश दो कि पानी के रूप में तुम्हारे पास आ जाएं। फिर तुम उस पानी में स्नान कर लेना। इससे तुम्हारे ऊपर से गोहत्या का पाप उतर जायेगा।” श्री कृष्ण ने ऐसा ही किया, उन्होंने सारे तीर्थों को बृजधाम बुलाया और पानी के रूप में एक कुंड में भर लिया। इस कुंड को उन्होंने बांसुरी से खोद कर बनाया था। इस कुंड में स्नान करने के बाद श्री कृष्ण के ऊपर से गोहत्या का पाप उतर गया।

Arishtasura took the form of a calf and joined the herd of cows. Joining the herd, he started looking for an opportunity to kill Krishna. When he did not get any chance to attack Shri Krishna, he started killing Krishna's friends. When Shri Krishna saw this condition of his child friends, he came to know that this is the work of a demon. What was it then, Lord Krishna caught the leg of Arishtasura in the form of a cow and threw him on the ground, which killed him.

When Radha Rani came to know about this incident, she said, “Kanha you have committed cow slaughter, which is a grave sin. To get rid of this sin, you will have to visit all the pilgrimages. Shri Krishna found Radha's words correct, but it was not possible to visit all the pilgrimages. Shri Krishna reached Narad Muni to get a solution to this problem.

Narad Muni said, “You order all the holy places to come to you in the form of water. Then you take bath in that water. This will remove the sin of cow slaughter from you. Shri Krishna did the same, he called all the pilgrimages Brijdham and filled them in a pool in the form of water. He had made this kund by digging it with a flute. After bathing in this kund, the sin of cow slaughter was removed from Shri Krishna.
