भगवान शिव का जन्म कैसे हुआ?

शिव पुराण में लिखा है कि भगवान शिव स्वयंभू हैं, यानी उनका जन्म अपने आप ही हुआ है। वहीं, विष्णु पुराण में बताया गया है कि भगवान विष्णु के माथे से निकलते तेज से शिव की उत्पति हुई थी और उनके नाभि से निकलते हुए कमल से ब्रह्मा जी का जन्म हुआ था। दूसरी ओर शिव पुराण यह कहता है कि एक बार की बात है जब भगवान शिव अपने घुटने मल रहे थे और उससे निकले मैल से विष्णु जी का जन्म हुआ।

इस कथा के अलावा, एक और पौराणिक कथा प्रचलित है।

बड़े-बुजुर्ग बताते हैं कि एक बार की बात है जब भगवान विष्णु और ब्रह्मा जी के बीच इस बात पर बहस छिड़ गई कि सबसे महान कौन है। इस बात को लेकर जब दोनों बहस कर रहे थे, तो एक खंबे के रूप में महादेव उनके बीच आ गए। वो दोनों इस रहस्य को समझ नहीं पाए और तभी अचानक एक आवाज आई, जिसने कहा कि जो भी इस खंबे का छोर ढूंढ लेगा, वही सबसे महान कहलाएगा। यह सुनते ही ब्रह्मा जी ने एक पक्षी का रूप लिया और खंबे का ऊपरी हिस्सा ढूंढने निकल गए। वहीं, विष्णु जी ने वराह का रूप धारण किया और खंबे का अंत ढूंढने निकल गए। बहुत देर तक खोजने के बाद भी दोनों में से किसी को खंबे का छोर नहीं मिला और दोनों ने हार मान ली।

इसके बाद भगवान शिव अपने असली रूप में आ गए। फिर भगवान विष्णु और ब्रह्मा जी ने मान लिया कि वही सबसे महान और शक्तिशाली हैं। यह खंबा उनके न जन्म लेने और न मरने का प्रतीक है। इस कारण यह कहा जाता है कि भगवान शिव स्वयंभू हैं यानी वह अमर हैं।

Both of them could not understand this mystery and then suddenly a voice came, The one who said that whoever finds the end of this pillar, he will be called the greatest. On hearing this, Brahma ji took the form of a bird and went out to find the top of the pillar. There, Vishnu ji took the form of Varah and went out to find the end of the pillar. Even after searching for a long time neither of them could find the end of the pole and both of them gave up.

After this Lord Shiva came in his real form. Then Lord Vishnu and Brahma ji accepted that they are the greatest and most powerful. This pillar is the symbol of his neither taking birth nor dying. For this reason it is said that Lord Shiva is Swayambhu i.e. He is immortal.
