गंगा सप्तमी व्रत कथा

पौराणिक काल में भागीरथ नामक एक पराक्रमी राजा हुआ करता था। भागीरथ के चौसठ हजार पूर्वज महर्षि कपिल की क्रोध की ज्वाला में जलकर भस्म हो गए थे और उन्हें कभी भी मुक्ति नहीं मिल पाई। उनके पूर्वजों को गंगा के जल से ही मुक्ति मिल सकती थी, जिसके लिए देवी गंगा को धरती पर लाना ज़रूरी था।

देवी गंगा को पृथ्वी पर लाने के लिए भागीरथ ने कठोर तपस्या की, जिसे देखकर मां गंगा प्रसन्न हुईं और उनसे वरदान मांगने के लिए कहा। राजा ने मां से धरती पर आने का आग्रह किया, जिससे उनके पूर्वजों की आत्मा को शांति मिल पाए। मां गंगा धरती पर आने के लिए मान गईं। लेकिन उन्होंने भागीरथ को बताया कि अगर वह स्वर्ग से सीधा पृथ्वी पर आएंगी तो पृथ्वी उनके वेग और गति को सहन नहीं कर पाएगी।

इस समस्या के समाधान के लिए देवी गंगा ने भागीरथ को भगवान शिव की आराधना करने के लिए कहा। भागीरथ शिव भक्ति में पूरी तरह लीन हो गए और इससे प्रसन्न होकर स्वयं महादेव ने उन्हें दर्शन दिए। जब शिव जी ने उन्हें वरदान मांगने के लिए कहा तो उन्होंने अपनी समस्या के बारे में बताया।

भागीरथ की समस्या सुनकर महादेव ने इसका समाधान निकाला और गंगा जी को अपनी जटाओं में कैद कर लिया। फिर जटा से एक लट को खोल दिया जिससे देवी गंगा सात धाराओं में पृथ्वी पर प्रवाहित हुईं। इस प्रकार भागीरथ मां गंगा को धरती पर लाने में और अपने पूर्वजों को मुक्ति दिलाने में सफल रहे।

Ganga Saptami Fast Story

In mythological times, there used to be a mighty king named Bhagirath. Sixty four thousand ancestors of Bhagirath were burnt to ashes in the flames of Maharishi Kapil's anger and they could never get salvation. Their forefathers could get salvation only by the water of Ganga, for which it was necessary to bring Goddess Ganga to earth.

Bhagiratha did austere penance to bring Goddess Ganga to earth, seeing which Mother Ganga was pleased and asked him to ask for a boon. The king requested the mother to come down to earth so that the souls of his ancestors could rest in peace. Mother Ganga agreed to come to earth. But she told Bhagirath that if she comes directly from heaven to earth, the earth will not be able to bear her speed and speed.

To solve this problem, Goddess Ganga asked Bhagirath to worship Lord Shiva. Bhagirath became completely engrossed in the devotion of Shiva and pleased with this, Mahadev himself appeared to him. When Lord Shiva asked him to ask for a boon, he told about his problem.

Hearing the problem of Bhagirath, Mahadev solved it and imprisoned Ganga ji in his locks. Then untied a braid from the Jata so that Goddess Ganga flowed on the earth in seven streams. In this way Bhagirath was successful in bringing Mother Ganga to earth and liberating his ancestors.
