सीता जी के जन्म की अन्य कथा

देवी सीता के जन्म की कथा वेदवती नाम की एक ब्राह्मण कन्या से संबंधित है जिसका उल्लेख ब्रह्मवैवर्त पुराण में मिलता है। इस कथा के के अनुसार  एक समय वेदवती भगवान विष्णु को पति के रूप में पाने के लिए तपस्या कर रही थीं।

हिमालय पर भ्रमण करते हुए रावण की नजर वेदवती पर पड़ी और उसके मन में वेदवती से विवाह का विचार आया। वेदवती रावण से बचने के लिए उंचाई से कूद गईं और मृत्यु के समय वो रावण को श्राप दे गईं कि आगे के समय में वो पुनर्जन्म लेकर रावण की पुत्री बनेंगी और उसकी मृत्यु का कारण बनेंगी। माता सीता का जब जन्म हुआ तब अपनी मृत्यु के भय से रावण ने उसे धरती पर एक कलश में रखकर गाड़ दिया।
