वरलक्ष्मी व्रत कथा

मगध के राज्‍य में कुंडी नाम का एक नगर था। कहा जाता है कि कुंडी नगर रावण की सोने की लंका की ही तरह सोने से बना हुआ था। इसी नगर में चारूमति नाम की ब्राह्मण महिला रहती थी। वह हर रोज मां लक्ष्मी की पूजा करती थी और पूरे लगन से अपने पति व सास-ससुर की सेवा भी करती थी।

एक रात जब चारूमति सो रही थी, तो उसके सपने में मां लक्ष्‍मी आईं। उन्होंने चारूमति से कहा – “मैं वरलक्ष्‍मी हूं। जिस तरह से तुम मेरी पूजा करती हो, मैं उससे बहुत प्रसन्न हूं। अगर तुम सावन के महिने के अंतिम शुक्रवार को मेरा व्रत रखकर मेरी पूजा करो, तो मेरे आशिर्वाद से तुम्हें सुख-समृद्धि मिलेगी और संतान की भी प्राप्ति होगी। इसके अलावा, अगर तुम यह व्रत अन्य लोगों से भी करवाओगी, तो उन्हें भी इसका शुभ फल मिलेगा।”

सुबह होने पर चारूमति ने सपने वाली बात अपने पति और सास-ससुर को बताई। उन लोगों ने सलाह देते हुए कहा कि सपने की बातें सच होती हैं। इसलिए उसे सपने के अनुसार सावन माह के आखिरी शुक्रवार को मां वरलक्ष्मी का व्रत करना चाहिए। साथ ही उन्होंने नगर की अन्य महिलाओं से भी यह व्रत कराने की सलाह दी।

इसके बाद सावन का महीने आने पर आखिरी शुक्रवार को चारूमति के साथ नगर की अन्‍य महिलाओं ने भी मां वरलक्ष्मी का व्रत रखा और उनका पूजन पाठ किया।

उस शुक्रवार के दिन चारूमति के साथ सभी महिलाओं ने सुबह उठकर स्‍नान किया। साफ कपड़े पहनें और मंडप सजाकर उसमें भगवान गणेश व मां लक्ष्मी की वरमुद्रा में मूर्ति रखी और कलश स्थापित करके पूरे विधि-विधान से उनकी पूजा की।

पूजा के आखिरी में सभी महिलाएं जब उस मंडप की परिक्रिमा करने लगीं, तो अचानक सभी महिलाओं का शरीर गहनों से सज गया।

इस तरह यह पूजन करके सभी महिलाओं को धन-संपत्ति मिली। इसके आलवा, उनका घर भी पशुधन, जैसे – गाय, घोड़े, हाथी आदि से भर गया। मां वरलक्ष्मी की कृपा से उनका नगर सोने का बन गया। तभी से नगर के सभी लोग चारूमती की प्रशंसा करने लगें और मां श्री वरलक्ष्‍मी की हर सावन माह के आखिरी शुक्रवार को पूजन करने लगें।

Varalakshmi fast story

There was a city named Kundi in the kingdom of Magadha. It is said that the city of Kundi was made of gold like Ravana's golden Lanka. In this city lived a Brahmin woman named Charumati. She used to worship Maa Lakshmi everyday and used to serve her husband and mother-in-law with full dedication.

One night when Charumati was sleeping, Maa Lakshmi appeared in her dream. He said to Charumati – “I am Varalakshmi. I am very pleased with the way you worship me. If you worship me by observing my fast on the last Friday of the month of Sawan, then with my blessings you will get happiness and prosperity and will also be blessed with a child. Apart from this, if you make other people do this fast, then they will also get auspicious results.

In the morning, Charumati narrated the dream to her husband and mother-in-law. Those people advised that the things of dreams come true. That's why according to the dream, he should observe Maa Varalakshmi's fast on the last Friday of the month of Sawan. Along with this, he also advised other women of the city to observe this fast.

After this, on the last Friday of the month of Sawan, along with Charumati, other women of the city also kept a fast and worshiped Maa Varalakshmi.

On that Friday, all the women along with Charumati got up early in the morning and took a bath. Wear clean clothes and decorate the mandap, place the idol of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi in Varmudra and worship them with full rituals by installing the urn.

At the end of the puja, when all the women started circumambulating that mandap, suddenly all the women's bodies were adorned with ornaments.

In this way, by worshiping this, all the women got wealth. Apart from this, his house was also filled with livestock like cows, horses, elephants etc. By the grace of Maa Varalakshmi, his city became golden. Since then all the people of the city started praising Charumati and started worshiping Maa Shree Varalakshmi on the last Friday of every Sawan month.
