कैसे हुई रुद्राक्ष की उत्पत्ति ?

पौराणिक कथा के अनुसार, एक समय भगवान शिव हजारों साल तक गहन ध्यान में चले गए थे. कहा जाता है कि शिव ने हजारों साल गहन ध्यान के बाद जब एक दिन अपनी आंखें खोलीं, तब उनके आंसुओं की बूंदें जमीन पर गिरी थीं, जिससे रुद्राक्ष के पेड़ विकसित हुए. रुद्र की आंखों से उत्पन्न होने के कारण इसे रुद्राक्ष का नाम दिया गया.

देवी भागवत पुराण के अनुसार एक बहुत ही शक्तिशाली राक्षस त्रिपुरासुर था जिसे अपनी शक्ति पर बहुत घमंड था. जिसके चलते उसने धरती पर सभी को परेशान करना शुरु कर दिया. उनसे देवताओं और ऋषियों को भी नहीं छोड़ा. उस राक्षस के बल के आगे देव या ऋषि कोई भी उसे हराने में कामयाब नहीं हुए. परेशान होकर ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और दूसरे देवता भगवान शिव के पास त्रिपुरासुर के वध की प्रार्थना लेकर गए. भगवान ने यह सब सुना तो वे द्रवित हुए और अपनी आंखें योग मुद्रा में बंद कर लीं.

जिसके थोड़ी देर बाद भगवान शिव ने अपनी आंखें खोली तो उनकी आंखों से आंसू धरती पर टपके. मान्यता है कि जहां जहां भगवान शिव के आंसू गिरे वहां-वहां रुद्राक्ष के वृक्ष उगे. रुद्र का अर्थ है ‘शिव’ और अक्ष मतलब ‘आंख’ जिसका अर्थ है शिव का प्रलयंकारी तीसरा नेत्र. इसलिए इन पेड़ों पर जो फल आए उन्हें ‘रुद्राक्ष’ कहा गया. इसके बाद भगवान शिव ने अपने त्रिशूल से राक्षस त्रिपुरासुर का वध कर पृथ्वी और देवलोक को उसके अत्याचार से मुक्त कराया.

एक अन्य मान्यता के अनुसार माता सती ने जब हवनकुंड में कूद कर आत्मदाह कर लिया था तब महादेव ने उनके जले हुए शरीर को लेकर तीनों लोकों में विलाप करते हुए विचरण किया था. कहा जाता है शिव के विलाप के कारण जहां-जहां भगवान शिव के आंसू टपके वहां-वहां रूद्राक्ष के वृक्ष उत्पन्न हुए.

How Rudraksh originated ?

According to legend, once upon a time Lord Shiva went into deep meditation for thousands of years. It is said that when Shiva opened his eyes one day after thousands of years of intense meditation, drops of his tears fell on the ground, from which Rudraksha trees grew. It was named Rudraksha because it originated from the eyes of Rudra.

According to the Devi Bhagavata Purana, there was a very powerful demon Tripurasura who was very proud of his power. Because of which he started troubling everyone on earth. Even the gods and sages were not spared from him. In front of the power of that demon, none of the gods or sages were able to defeat him. Distressed, Brahma, Vishnu and other deities went to Lord Shiva with a prayer to kill Tripurasura. When God heard all this, he was moved and closed his eyes in yoga posture.

After some time when Lord Shiva opened his eyes, tears started falling from his eyes. It is believed that wherever the tears of Lord Shiva fell, Rudraksha trees grew there. Rudra means 'Shiva' and Aksha means 'eye' which means third eye of Shiva. That's why the fruits that came from these trees were called 'Rudraksh'. After this, Lord Shiva killed the demon Tripurasura with his trident and freed the earth and Devlok from his tyranny.
